Sharing Some Joy – Resolutions 2012 Progress (with pics)

I made some bold resolutions a few months ago… Im almost done buying audio toys (lol), for real, and I just moved to a beautiful 24th floor where Im going to build the record / mix room in the next couple of months. Have a look!

Now I only have another 15 milestones to reach.

Three things:

1. Who needs to write poetry to drop the pants when you have a view like that?

2. You look significantly bigger than your avatar picture. Protein and weights . . . aren’t they grand?

3. Abs or STFU.

Hah, pictures of abs coming

I have a Satchurator too. I need the Ice9 to go with.

The two Jag axes look too cool. I’ve never messed with one, though.

Your processing gear looks downright insane. I don’t wanna know what it all cost.

The weird looking Jag is a bass... very aggressive sound http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vnyISOqoCCM&feature=related
What style do you play?

Ah music gear porn…I likes it.

The Juno-60 is a vintage item.

Is that a Jaguar?

Good job Yomahi. Great place. I would suggest though if you want to pass on your genes. Go to the outlands and find an old fashioned. Help’s if her Parents love you. I have to been to big cities, and have seen the girls. I’ll take the old school every time. I’m a Christian. Plus hot girl’s out here. Here the hottest girls wait if they have been raised old school. Old school girl made me commit. Went to Seattle with the Mrs. for a convention. What a joke. Seattle trip means I finally understand SWPL.

We live in different worlds. Living where we do. You would see what a tradtional female looks like. They can be hot, but the smart ones know the score. They want a Man to protect them and the kid’s. I do it. Five years out, hope to have good Grandkids.

Correcting. From learning game. Better think hard about learning inner game. The oldest is a so natural he can keep an uber hottie enthralled. Good thanks her parents raised her old school. It’s not easy for me to see my oldest realize the truth. But I fealt as his Father, I had to let him know.

SouthX, not sure how is passing my genes related to my porn gear and apartment… nevermind I can see it now.

JUNO! I haven’t seen one of those in a long time…

You’ve got a lot of great gear assembled man. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I take it you are building a studio based on “real” gear instead of going virtual? I’d love to go that route, but I don’t have the space for racks of real stuff, and since I mostly only record for myself, no clients to impress with flashing lights and knobs. :P

Please tell me you are intending to use this to make some money from people recording… I’m not overly jealous of the gear if that is the case, but I might have to actually envy you a bit if all that is just for your own fun. Also, can we expect to have some Yohami music online soon to enjoy?

Ted, It's still missing a few pieces... and the studio is getting built in the next weeks. It's for personal use, but I do plan to make money from it, selling music, making videos, games, and what not. Coming later this year.

I've been using plugins for 15 years or so. Useful toys but they dont have "the sound" I need to compete on a pro / commercial level.

What style do you play?

yeah there is no doubt that virtual recording is cheap and easy, but it doesn't have nearly the sound as real gear. It isn't just cost for me though, space is a big issue. I have to fit my gear in a house with another adult, and three school aged children. Space in our house is at a premium...

I write all kinds of stuff from metal to electronic/dance/trance. All of the bands I've been in were rock/metal though.

and as far as it goes, I'm a little jealous either way. But, more so glad to see someone actually making a go at music as a "career" of sorts. Be sure to let us know when you get some stuff online. I have a few tunes up on BandMix (I'm halfheartedly looking for a small group to do local gigs with part time.) but other than that I don't think any of my former band pages still exist.

Whoa, that’s a lot of gear.

Although I appreciate that analogue gives you the sound you want, personally I’m more inclined to go the digital route. I’ve got enough stuff in my life as it is.

Although I did buy myself my first tube amp recently. Egnater Rebel 30… sweetest thing ever!

June 11 2012 17:20 pm

Ted D

Ahhh tubes! I have a tube based mic pre-amp that I run my vocals through before going digital. I really love the warmth it adds to the sound, and I like that it takes a bit of the higher timbre from my voice. You know how some male tenors sound a bit whiny? Well, I have that overtone myself, and short of EQuing it out, I've found that adding a bit of tube in the signal chain de-emphasizes it a good bit without EQ.

But yeah, I'm with you on the digital vs. analog debate. I think analog sounds better, and if I had the money and space I would amass a collection of cool gear full of knobs and flashing lights. But, space is at a minimum for me, and for now cost is a consideration as well. But, I'm not looking to make a buck from my recording capabilities. I use it simply to get my ideas into a format others can enjoy. If I were to somehow end up in a place where I was making money on it, I would switch gears and go the route Yohami is.

Tubes are magic, half of the stuff I got are tubes, and when not, they have heavy colored transformers. Digital is still good for a lot of stuff, starting on portability

Ted, can you share some of that music? mine is coming by the end of the year

Using DropBox for a quick share:

These songs were recorded with my former band Age of Dissent. We did these in a former iteration of our project studio which was pulled apart and sold off several years back.

215 - http://db.tt/JFtTNwdJ
Lies - http://db.tt/HY98s3e1
Somewhere in the Darkness - http://db.tt/HY98s3e1

These songs are completely written by, performed by, and recorded by me on various equipment over the last couple years.

After I'm Gone - http://db.tt/HY98s3e1
Dawn Breaking - http://db.tt/HY98s3e1
Undone - http://db.tt/8ZMzCHWL (I went overboard with the autotune on this one, but it was fun to play with...)

This last song was co-written by a friend and myself. He did the original acoustic guitar and strings, I added the bass, percussion, and vocals. (wrote the lyrics as well.) the interesting thing about this song is, it was recorded entirely on an iPad using an Alesis iO Dock.

All I Need is You - http://db.tt/wcIRzZXF

Let me know what you think.
